ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARDS – CALL FOR ENTRIES
The 2006 National Awards for Economic Development Excellence (the ED Awards) are now accepting entries from local governments and other economic development agencies and organisations.
Last year nearly 70 councils and regional organisations submitted entries to the National Awards, which were coordinated by the Economic Development Association of Victoria (EDAV). The new national body, Economic Development Australia (EDA), will endorse the 2006 Awards with the facilitation being undertaken by EDAV .
The spokesperson for the EDA, David Keenan, who is the current President of EDAV, said that the 2006 Awards would build on “the firm foundation established last year. This is truly a national Award competition and we are looking for entries that inspire and inform people working in economic development roles in councils and regional bodies. I urge all councils to consider entering the Awards.”
Entries will close on Friday 27 October 2006. There are eight Awards within five categories:
- The Economic Development Local Government Award
- Best efforts in attracting and retaining business through marketing materials
- Use of the internet to effectively promote services and offer information
- Use of print promotion to communicate effectively to the target audience
- Public Private Partnerships
- Economic Development initiatives that generate jobs using outstanding or innovative programs
- The Economic Development Local Government Practitioner Award (Elected)
- Leadership Award – Economic Development Local Government Practitioner Award (employee)
Details of the Awards and how to enter can be found at http://www.edav.org.au/ImageLibraryAssets/edawards/edawards_entry_2006.pdf
The Awards will be presented at a Gala Dinner on Thursday, November 16, at the Arts Centre in Melbourne to be held on the evening of Day 1 of the Local Government Economic Development Conference.
