1 Award Golden Environs – Outstanding LGA Sustainability Achievement.
The Golden Environs award will be judged from winners of the Silver awards.
Silver awards
Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability -3 Awards: Urban, Urban-rural interface and Rural LGAs.
These awards are to recognise significant achievement by a local council in progressing sustainability within their community. This can be for any kind of project, for example community infrastructure, community education and governance.
Outstanding Sustainability Partnerships -3 Awards: Large, Medium and Small LGAs
These awards are to recognise significant achievement by a partnership between a local council and an external organisation in progressing sustainability within their community. This can be for any kind of project, for example community infrastructure, community education and governance.
Eligibility
Nominations for both categories are open to LGA members of Environs Australia and to all Local Governments around Australia. Non-LGA members of Environs can only apply for the partnerships category. In this case the LGA does no t have to be a member of Environs.
Criteria for Judging the awards:
Each award will be assessed on its merit and all information necessary to assess the award must be sent to PO Box 232, Nerang, Queensland, 4211 no later than close of Business Friday February 10 2006.
Nominations must be for one of the silver awards. The same organisation/LGA can not apply in two categories in the same year so as to improve the opportunities of smaller council's.
Each entry should explicitly address and will be assessed against the following five main sustainability principles:
- Ecological sensitivity and resilience protection (Conservation of Biodiversity)
- Social justice, past and future generations (Intergenerational equity)
- Community engagement and development (Intragenerational equity)
- Developing more sustainable economies and consumption behaviours including full-cost accounting for actions (Internalisation of externalities)
- Exercising leadership under uncertainty (Precautionary Principle)
The Executive of Environs Australia will form the selection panel for the awards and they and their organisation will be ineligible for entry.
To enter the awards please send you nomination to Environs Australia. If you know of a potential worthy recipient do not hesitate to encourage them to apply. We seek sustainability leaders, and sometime small things achieve large outcomes.
Entries should not be over-produced and should be succinct (not more than 5 A4 pages) describing the nominees, the award category and the project, and addressing the award criteria. It can be helpful to include referenced figures and photos of the project to assist in judging.
Environs prefers electronic entries but will accept hard copies.
