4. CALL TO JOIN GLOBAL R&D PROJECT

The Australian IMS (Intelligent Manufacturing Systems) Secretariat is calling for organisations to join an international collaborative R&D project to develop an Advanced Environmental Monitoring System (AEMS) that will use novel technologies to identify groundwater contaminants in and around industrial facilities.

Academic and research institutions, hardware and software suppliers, system integrators, environmental engineers and manufacturer end users are invited to participate as partners in the project. Both large organisations and SMEs from across Australia will join current participants from Japan, Europe, Canada and the USA. The Australian IMS Secretariat can offer some SMEs financial assistance in the project’s formative stages.

The R&D aspect of the AEMS project is expected to run for four years and involve three primary technologies – novel biosensors for environmental applications, telemetry, and modelling and decision-making software. Partners would collaborate using both face-to-face meetings and electronic communication. As with all IMS R&D projects, participants will be able to share in the ownership of any new intellectual property that is generated and to commercialise the resulting products and services.

In addition to the AEMS, there are a number of other IMS projects in which Australian companies of all sizes can become involved. Those interested in participating should contact the IMS Australia Secretariat on +61 2 9928 2366, email IMSAustralia@au.ims.org or visit http://www.au.ims.org
